Introducing L’Avinia, our old stone house with heated pool for rent in Provence!

You know why we chose the Provence region of France as our new destination for short-term rentals. You also know how we researched and found our this first (of many?) Provence house.

So finally, after many months of renovation, furnishing, decoration and finishing touches, the time has come to unveil that house: L’Avinia.

The House in brief:

L’Avinia is a grand hundred-year-old bastide house, renovated early in 2013 respecting the authentic history and soul of the property: traditional stone construction, central staircase with a wonderful hundred-year patina gently worn into the stone steps, fine volumes and proportions, with floors in traditional antique Provence tile.

The extensive renovation work (including removing 3 load-bearing walls, creating 2 new bedrooms and 2 new bathrooms, plus adding a terrace extension and of course the essential heated pool), furnishing and detail decoration were all done by our in-house A La Carte Design team, the same team that designed all our Paris rentals commissioned by investors wanting to own a Paris apartment that they can rent out when not using it themselves.

Naturally, the interior design of the house had to match the natural beauty of its Provençal surroundings. The house also had to integrate well with our portfolio of Paris properties and meet the high standards and esthetic preferences of our existing client base.

The aim was therefore to achieve a similar welcoming warmth and feel as our Paris apartments, yet translated into the traditional muted tones, materials and country antiques of Provence.

Click here to view a complete set of 60 photographs, description, specification and availability calendar of L’Avinia.

With 4 bedrooms and as many bathrooms and WC, the house accommodates up to 8 people, whatever the season (two wood-burning fireplaces make winter periods special too).

The occupants in the house enjoy panoramic views over the Provence countryside, saturated with color and scent.

While those outside have everything they need for idyllic moments of relaxation with loved ones. Indeed, the sunny south-facing garden is peaceful and very well equipped, including a heated pool.

Location, location, location:

L’Avinia is located in the tranquil and picturesque village of La Bruguière, just 8 minutes from the fairy-tale town of Uzès, one of the main poles of attraction of Provence, situated within easy reach of Avignon (TGV train), Nîmes (TGV or airport) or Marseilles (airport), on the border of the Gard and Vaucluse departments.

Uzès is the beautifully preserved architectural, cultural, artistic and gastronomical heart of the region, without a doubt one of Provence’ most attractive towns, whose aura and well-deserved international reputation draws hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.

Uzès is renowned for its classified heritage (castle, cathedral, church, historic centre), as well as its smart and original boutiques, cafés and enviable selection of fine restaurants, not forgetting a twice-weekly market of 1000 scents and local produce. Feel your senses come alive as you explore the variety of traiteurs, charcuteries, boulangeries, fromageries, as well as small specialty stores selling local wine, honey, olive oil and tapenade.

In essence, Uzès is an adventure in art de vivre.

What’s more, unlike the comparably beautiful villages and towns of the nearby Luberon region, which are largely deserted outside of the peak months of July and August, Uzès thrives and remains full of life all year round.

The sights and activities in the vicinity of Uzès include the monumental Pont-du-Gard aquaduct, the Gardon grottos, Sautaret waterfalls, Nîmes roman arena, Cevennes national park (with canoeing / kayak), Anduze pottery manufacturing, hot air ballooning, not forgetting the Haribo sweet factory and museum for the kids!

Exploring further afield, you will discover the considerable charms of the other Provence towns of St-Remy-de-Provence, Baux-de-Provence, Arles and Avignon.

For golfers, Uzès sports a beautiful flowery 9-hole, par-36 golf course, offering 3Km of rich variations of difficulty, for beginners and experienced players alike. The sweet climate of Provence means that it is open all year round.

Many more details, tips and local recommendations are provided in the “House Guide” booklet in the house, so you can go straight to the best addresses and make the most of your stay.

Grab a rental car and L’Avinia is 40 minutes drive from Avignon TGV train station (which is only 2h40 from central Paris), or alternatively you can fly in to Nîmes or Marseilles airports.

How wonderful that you have put reading lights by the bedsides—for those of us who HAVE to do some reading before going off to sleepl

    Aloha e Alex,

I was about ready to send this on to some Francophiles I know as this is a house we’d be interested in sharing in future years (already booked this year). But I don’t see any pics of the kitchen which is a huge component of our vacation time: cooking and eating. Did I somehow miss those shots? Anytime I see a description of “cosy” I tend to think it’s a small kitchen….so what are the details on that?

    Much aloha,

    1. Hi Vicki,
The kitchen is photo n°13, here:
      http://www.alacarte-paris-apartments.com/A-WEEK-IN-PROVENCE.html
It is a big kitchen with american-style refrigerator and high-end stove/cooker.
It is “cosy” only because it has two armchairs in front of the huge fireplace! 🙂

This looks utterly inviting! I wish I had known about this before finalizing our Paris trip this fall. I would have added a week in Provence! C’est la vie! Next time perhaps. Love the idea and the house looks marvelous. I know you will keep us posted on progress. This is sure to be successfully received.

What a beautiful property in a beautiful area! You have me dreaming a visit to France again. My suggestion would be to try to find a property in the town of Uzes itself. We stayed there several years ago, and loved being able to walk to the gorgeous square and all the shops. We enjoyed the fabulous market days as well as a special medieval fest.

    Hello Alex
in a word “Beautiful”. I have just returned from a Month in France. Hard to be back at work
and back in Australia. I could be very happy staying in that gorgeous part of France.
Bonne chance…. however you will not need luck as this is a winner for sure
    Kindest regards

You showed very few photos of the interior of l’Avinia. I would want to see all 4 bedrooms, all bathrooms, full views of the kitchen, and more views of the common rooms. Several views of the pool don’t cut it. I don’t see how you hope to rent this, basically site unseen.

    1. Hi Nancy,
There are in fact 60 photos in all, showing all the rooms:
      http://www.alacarte-paris-apartments.com/A-WEEK-IN-PROVENCE.html
      Did you not see them?
I’m a bit worried that perhaps others are missing the fact that there are more photos (click on arrow)…
      Thanks,
      Alex

L’Avinia is very attractive. We would consider if we can get our family together. I would encourage you to develop some smaller places in Provence. We love the area and will be there for the second time this year. I hope your first effort is a success.
